Author: Stanley J. Michalak
Average review score:

One Fine Gentleman
I cannot vouch for the book, having just learned of it's publication, but I sat in the author's classes years ago and can say with utter sincerity that Professor Michalak is one of the finest, most erudite, original and irrerverent political scientists I have had the fortune to meet.

Principles of Electronic Circuits
Published in Hardcover by PWS Publishing Co. (January, 1987)
Authors: Stanley G. Burns and Paul R. Bond
Average review score:

An excellent text for introductory electronics
During my introductory electronics course I studied from both Sedra/Smith and this text. In my opinion, Burns and Bond is a better text. The incorporation of SPICE in Burns/Bond gives valuable insight in the design of electronic circuits. The Burns/Bond text is also more straightforward than Sedra/Smith. The presentation style of some topics in Sedra/Smith makes them difficult to learn. This is not the case in Burns/Bond. This is an excellent text

Principles of Paleontology
Published in Hardcover by W H Freeman & Co. (June, 1978)
Authors: David M. Raup and Steven M. Stanley
Average review score:

Still The Best Academic Introduction to Paleontology
"Principles of Paleontology" remains the finest introductory academic text to paleontology, written by two of the foremost paleontologists in the latter half of the 20th Century. It may be of interest too to historians and philosophers of science since the book reflects paleontology's emergence as a quantitative science shaped by recent advances in systematic biology and theoretical ecology. David Raup, now professor emeritus of geophysical sciences at the University of Chicago, was probably the paleontologist most responsible for paleontology's emergence as a quantitative science; his research covered many aspects of theoretical paleontology from analyzing shell morphology to measuring evolutionary rates. Steven M. Stanley, still a professor of geology at Johns Hopkins University, is noted for his research on the functional morphology of mollusk shells, measuring evolutionary rates, and introducing the concept of "Species Selection".

Raup's and Stanley's text covers all aspects of paleontology from preservation and the fossil record to functional morphology, biostratigraphy, paleoecology, and macroevolution. Of special note to historians of science is the considerable attention that they devoted to then recent advances in community and population ecology, such as the MacArthur-Wilson theory of equilibrium island biogeography. Admittedly, much of the book emphasizes invertebrate paleontology, though some attention is devoted too to paleobotany and vertebrate paleontology.

Prion Biology and Diseases (Cold Spring Harbor Monograph Series, No. 38)
Published in Hardcover by Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (01 September, 1999)
Author: Stanley B. Prusiner
Average review score:

(One of the) best book(s) about prions
Simply: excellent. The most comprehensive book about prions that I've read up to now. Easy to read, since it contains extremely few mistakes, all of them having to do with the layout, not the contents.

Prisons in America: A Reference Handbook
Published in Library Binding by ABC-CLIO (01 November, 1999)
Authors: Nicole Hahn Rafter, Debra L. Stanley, and Nichole Hahn Rafter
Average review score:

recommended for all
As a profesional working on a University and write about European prisons I found this book reaaly helpful. It provides the new data for scientific researches, however for me there is not enough reference concerning some of the topics. If someone is interested in finding information about American prisons system this is the right book. It has only one bad point - the book is too short but for people not working in this subject it is ok.

Published in Hardcover by Temple Univ Press (May, 1996)
Author: William Deane Stanley
Average review score:

Military Extortion
This volume, which has been reviewed quite widely, is an excellent contribution to understanding the nature of the conflict in ES and the kind of social trade offs elites made to stay in power. A really useful addition to military in LA studies, revolution studies and of course required for those engaged in the question for ES development
